Chapter 36

Waking without an alarm clock was a skill that came from living so close to the line that being late or missing work could cost you more than just a job. Although today was different, her internal alarm still went off before Dash woke up.

Waking up in Eddie’s arms was a novelty that needed evaluation. Gemma didn’t immediately jump up like she normally did. She took a moment just to enjoy the memories. Eddie hadn’t let go of her all night. Every time she turned he did, too, rearranging himself to touch as much of her as possible.

Having slept alone most of her life, it should have bothered her to have someone so clingy, but it didn’t – not at all. Dash slept through the night, not waking. She woke up periodically due to her mom genes, and each time she could hear his quiet breathing.

She also took a moment to evaluate how she felt physically. She was tender but in a fan-fucking-tastic way. She could lie and say she hadn’t felt that way in a long time, but the truth was she’d never felt this good waking up in the morning. She didn’t even care that she had to work today. The hard part would be keeping the stupid grin off her face all day.

Turning to see Eddie sleeping next to her. She couldn’t look at him too long, or she’d get lost in those handsome features. Still too pretty for a boy.

Gemma slowly rolled away from him, attempting to slip out of the bed to get Dash up, when the arm that had been draped loosely around her tightened.

“Where you going?” he mumbled sleepily.

“Gotta get Dash up and get back to my house for work. We have clean clothes, thanks to you, but still need to get him to Jamie’s.”

“Let me snuggle you,” he murmured.

Laughing, Gemma placed a kiss on his forehead. “I would love to, but I need to figure out breakfast for Dash and get home before my shift,” Gemma explained.

“I’ll get Dash up and start breakfast; you hit the shower. Spare toothbrushes and junk are in the closet in the bathroom. When you’re done, come eat with Dash. I’ll shower and we’ll go back to your house.” Eddie said all this with his eyes still closed like he was fast asleep.

“You don’t have to do that, I’ll grab him something to take over to Jamie’s,” she started.

“Do we have enough time for my plan?” he asked, one beautiful blue eye cracking open.

Gemma knew they did, she always got up early. “Sure, but you don’t have to,” she tried again.

She watched that one eye start to glare at her, then the other one opened up and it was glaring too.

“Remember last night?”

“Yes, I remember,” she said, hoping her cheeks weren’t on fire.

“This is me taking care of you. Don’t be mean to me,” he said.

“I’m not being mean! I’m trying to help you out by not taking over your morning,” she pleaded.

Gemma found herself on her back with Eddie looming over her.
